An Expat in Paradise
Well I’m officially an “expat in paradise”. Landed earlier this month from my summer siesta to Amsterdam and now I’m livin da life in Grand Cayman Island mon!
Getting here was a bit of a challenge but minor compared to the rewards. What beautiful people, warm friendly and polite. Grand Cayman is a quaint jewel in the British Crown. Located some 500 miles from Miami, it’s a short, hour long flight that takes you over Cuba and lands you in a diver’s nirvana. Billed as the third best dive location in the world, it’s a favorite location for divers from all points on the globe.
As I mentioned before the Caymanian people are laid back and friendly. Obviously this isn’t Europe or the US and some things are done a bit different, but the locals will generally go the extra mile to help and explain things. My apartment is on the South shore of the island directly on the water. Truly, a million dollar view. I snorkel 50 feet from the back patio in my own trillion gallon fish tank!
I will talk to you next time about the ease and availability of work for the expat community. I landed in paradise on my last dollar and now I’m making a great living and you can to! Many jobs are out there and I will share my experience in the hope it help someone like you looking to get out of Doge! Until next time keep the faith and make it great!
